How to Read These Before & After Results
Eyelid surgery is a millimetre operation. The difference between a rested, natural result and an obviously operated one is measured in very small amounts of tissue — and it shows in movement long before it shows in a photograph.
The Eye Shape Must Stay the Same
Correctly performed eyelid surgery removes what conceals the eye, not what defines it. Watch the outer corner and the overall almond shape of the eye across each video — a rounded, pulled-down or startled appearance means too much was taken. The eyes should look more open, never different.
Watch the Blink and the Smile
The eyelids should close completely and comfortably, and the lower lid should stay in contact with the eye when the patient smiles. Incomplete closure, a visible white strip beneath the iris, or a lower lid that pulls away are all signs of over-correction — and all of them are invisible in a still photograph.
Look for a Defined, Natural Crease
In upper eyelid surgery the crease should sit at a natural height and follow the eye's own curve, symmetrically on both sides. A crease placed too high reads as surgical immediately; one that disappears at the outer corner leaves the hooding it was meant to correct.
The Under-Eye Should Look Rested, Not Hollow
In lower eyelid surgery the aim is a smooth transition from lid to cheek. Simply removing fat can leave the eye looking hollow and older, not fresher — which is why repositioning tissue is usually preferred to removing it. Eyelid surgery does not treat dark circles caused by pigmentation, fine crow's feet, or a descended brow. Questions we are often asked about these results
Why video instead of before and after photographs?
Because the eyes are never still. Blinking, smiling and closing the eyes are exactly where an over-corrected eyelid result gives itself away — and a photograph shows none of it. Video also removes the flattery of lighting and camera angle, which can make a mediocre eyelid result look convincing in a still image.
Will eyelid surgery change the shape of my eyes?
It should not. A correctly performed blepharoplasty removes the excess tissue concealing your natural eye shape — it does not create a new one. The eyes look more open and rested, while the character and expression stay recognisably yours. A changed eye shape is a sign of over-correction, not of a strong result.
Will the scars be visible?
Upper eyelid incisions are placed within the natural crease, which hides them almost completely once healed. Lower eyelid surgery is often performed from inside the lid, leaving no external scar at all; where an external incision is needed it sits just beneath the lash line. Eyelid skin heals better than skin anywhere else on the body.
How long is the recovery?
Faster than most patients expect. Bruising and swelling are most noticeable in the first few days and the majority resolves within 7–10 days, by which point most people are comfortable in public. Fine swelling around the incision can take several weeks to settle completely, and the final refined result appears gradually over a few months.
Do the results last?
Upper eyelid surgery is generally long-lasting — the skin that was removed does not return, although the face continues to age normally around it. Lower eyelid results are similarly durable. Neither procedure stops ageing; both reset the starting point, and skin quality, sun exposure and genetics determine how the years that follow look.
