What is facial mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a technique in which a tailored mixture of vitamins (typically B-complex, C), antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and amino acids is injected superficially into the dermis using very fine needles. The goal is to nourish the skin from within, stimulate collagen, and improve hydration, tone, and elasticity. It sits in a sweet spot of facial aesthetics: more effective than topical creams, less invasive than fillers or surgery, and ideal for patients who want a freshening without committing to anything dramatic.
What it does and doesn't do
Mesotherapy increases skin hydration noticeably, with many patients reporting a "glow" within days. It improves fine-line appearance through better dermal structure over weeks, brightens dull, stressed, or sun-damaged skin, and helps prepare skin pre-event, such as a series of sessions before a wedding.
Mesotherapy will not lift sagging skin, fill deep wrinkles, or change facial volume. It's not a substitute for fillers, Botox, or surgery — it complements them.
Who is it for?
Patients aged 25-55 with healthy but tired-looking skin, dehydration, fine lines or early signs of dullness are good candidates. Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should wait, and patients with active skin infections should treat those first. It also suits patients already using Botox or filler who want to improve overall skin quality between injectable appointments, since mesotherapy works on the skin itself rather than on muscles or volume, and travelling patients preparing for an event who want a visible refresh without surgery or significant downtime.
Procedure process
A standard course is 3-4 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart, with maintenance every 3-6 months. Each session takes 30-45 minutes. The skin is cleansed, a topical anaesthetic cream applied, and the formulation is delivered with either a manual mesotherapy gun or fine micro-needles. The specific blend of vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides and amino acids is tailored to each patient's skin concerns during consultation, and the number and pattern of injection points depends on the treatment area and the depth of the concern being addressed. Between sessions, patients are advised to keep the skin well hydrated and to maintain daily sun protection, both of which support the skin's response to treatment.
After the procedure
Tiny pinpoint marks (often invisible by the next day), occasional small bruises, and slight redness for a few hours are expected. Most patients return to normal activity immediately. Avoid intense sun exposure, saunas and makeup for 12 hours. A glow can be visible within days, with cumulative improvement over 6-8 weeks. How often maintenance sessions are needed afterward varies with age, baseline skin condition, sun exposure and lifestyle factors such as smoking; patients with more mature or sun-damaged skin often benefit from sessions toward the more frequent end of the 3-6 month maintenance window, while patients with healthier skin may find the longer interval sufficient.
Risks
Side effects are typically minor: small bruises, transient swelling, occasional sensitivity. Allergic reactions are rare but possible. The single most important safety factor is the practitioner — mesotherapy must be performed by a licensed medical professional using sterile, pharmaceutical-grade products; spa-grade or unregulated providers should be avoided.
Related procedures
Facial mesotherapy complements rather than replaces Botox and filler-based cheek enhancement or lip refinement; it can be scheduled alongside Botox with at least 1 week between sessions.
