Most patients report discomfort and nasal congestion rather than sharp pain in the first few days — comparable to a severe head cold — and this is well managed with prescribed medication. Significant pain is not typical. The cast and tape are removed at day 7–10, by which point visible bruising has usually faded enough to return to normal social and professional activities; most patients take 10–14 days off work. A significant improvement is visible immediately after cast removal, but the nose takes a full 12–18 months for all residual swelling — particularly in the tip — to resolve completely.
